
Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow is a painful condition that occurs when tendons in the elbow become tender, usually by repetitive motions of the wrist and arm. It is also known as lateral epicondylitis, writer’s cramp, washer women’s elbow. Tennis players, cricketers, People whose jobs feature the types of motions that can lead to tennis elbow include plumbers, painters, carpenters and butchers. The condition tends to affect men and women equally. The annual incidence is 1%-2%. The condition is primarily a degenerative overuse process of extensor carpi radialis brevis and common extensor tendon. The pain occurs primarily where the tendons of forearm muscles attach to a bony bump on the outside the elbow. Pain can also spread into forearm and wrist. The pain may radiate from the outside of elbow into forearm and wrist. Pain and weakness may make it difficult to shake hands or grip an object, turn a doorknob, hold a
coffee cup. Internal medicine like Punarnavadi Kashaya, Rasnerandai kashaya, Chandraprabha gulika. External treatment like Lepa with Nagaradi choorna bandage with Murivenna, Agnikarma is commonly done to treat the Tennis elbow. And advise such as, to rest the elbow either in sling or cast, exercise that involves grasping a rubber ball twisting it and slowly untwisting it. Use of orthosis (tennis elbow brace)- which improves function or reduce pain of Tennis elbow.
